On Wednesday 26th February we were extremely lucky to attend a "Discovery morning" at The Birmingham Royal Ballet.
We took 25 students who had a wonderful day exploring the stage, lighting, sets, and costumes. We had storytelling where we listened to the story of The Prince of The Pagodas. We also had a music workshop where one of the Conductors, Paul, came to tell us all about the music for the ballet with one of the Percussionists, Kevin, who showed us how all the different percussion instruments worked and which were used for The Prince of The Pagodas. Our last session of the day was the ballet workshop, which the girls thoroughly enjoyed, they learnt one of the routines that the Corp de Ballet performs in The Prince of The Pagodas.
Our students were a credit to the dance school, they were thoroughly absorbed in the workshops and danced beautifully, whilst realising that even the simplest routines perfomed by the ballet company are actrually quite complicated (especially when involving parasoles!).
We headed to The Handmade Burger Company for lunch which was a real treat and then went back to the Hippodrome to watch the Birmingham Royal Ballet's performance of The Prince of The Pagodas, which was simply stunning. To our surprise we even had one of our
ex students performing in the ballet as the young Prince (and what a superb performance), an added excitment for the girls.
